Visitors are welcome to take photos and videos in The Becker County Museum for personal use only. Any photo, film, or video shoots for commercial purposes require prior permission. The museum regularly captures images and videos for promotional use.
By purchasing admission, you consent, on behalf of everyone in your group, to be photographed and included in promotional materials. You grant the museum permission to use these images or videos for educational, marketing, advertising, and other purposes that support the museum’s mission. If you do not agree to this, please inform the Front Desk.
1882
The Pioneer Settlers Union, made up of many founding residents of Becker County, was established to preserve the history of the community.
1924
The Pioneer Settlers Union was renamed the “Becker County Historical Society.” At this time the historical collections were held in a closet at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. The President of the Board of Trustees held the key!
1943
The Becker County Museum is founded and housed in the basement of the Becker County Courthouse in Detroit Lakes, MN. As the collection grew it became clear the museum needed a space of their own.
1980
The Becker County Museum planned to move into the original 1895 portion of the Holmes School. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed both the 1895 and 1909 sections of the school and were demolished – along with the museum’s hope for a larger location.
