SUMMARY:Fur Trade in Minnesota
DESCRIPTION:Explore the fascinating people and places of Minnesota’s first global business in “Fur Trade in Minnesota\,” a new traveling exhibit from the Minnesota History Center opening January 10\, 2026 at the Becker County Museum. \n\n\n\nHundreds of years ago\, Minnesota played a key role in the fur trade\, which stretched across five continents. Visitors to the exhibit can lift a 45-pound Voyageur’s pack\, learn how the fur trade shaped Ojibwe art and discover how beaver pelts could be transformed into sleek\, stately hats that were all the rage among wealthy Europeans. \n\n\n\n“Fur Trade in Minnesota” will be on view through April 25\,2026. \n\n\n\n“Fur Trade in Minnesota” was created by the Minnesota History Center’s “Exhibits to Go” program which brings Minnesota history to communities statewide. \n\n\n\n“Exhibits to Go” is made possible by the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4\, 2008.

SUMMARY:Butterfly Odyssey
DESCRIPTION:The Becker County Museum presents Butterfly Odyssey: Saving rainforests\, one flap at a time with financial support from Becker County Children’s Initiative\, Pelican Water Shed District and Becker County Soil and Water Conservation District. The exhibit will be at the Becker County Museum October 4th\, 2025 -April 4th\, 2026. \n\n\n\nTickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children which includes your daily admission to the museum for 3 floors of learning and fun! Museum members\, cost is just $5 for adults and $3 for children \n\n\n\nRegardless of where you live\, you rely on products and services provided by tropical rainforests. In addition to providing familiar products like bananas\, chocolate\, and coffee\, we can all take a deep breath and thank the rainforest. Almost one-quarter of the world’s oxygen is produced there. Not only do we rely on rainforests to meet our needs\, nearly half of all Earth’s animal species can be found in rainforests and rely directly on them for survival.Managing the needs of people and planet is a delicate balancing act. Rainforests around the world are under threat due to over-harvesting and habitat destruction\, but sustainable practices provide a blueprint for using resources today in a way that ensures they will be available for generations to come.Butterfly Odyssey is a high-energy\, immersive role-play journey in rainforest conservation that explores the sustainable business of butterfly farming.Become a butterfly and see if you are one of the lucky 2% of caterpillars that makes it to adulthood in the wild. Can you survive the spider’s web\, hairy plant trap\, and predators’ wheel? Then experience a more sheltered life as a farmed butterfly. Collect eggs of different butterfly species at the host plant and egg hunt; feed each caterpillar the correct “leaves” at the bean bag toss; and undergo metamorphosis first-hand as you turn into a chrysalis along with the hungry caterpillars. After caterpillars pupate\, it’s time to get busy! Race against the clock and fill orders to send butterfly chrysalids around the world in time for them to hatch and take flight.Along your journey uncover other sustainable rainforest enterprises that impact your daily life\, like fair trade crafts\, organic farming\, and farmer-owned coffee cooperatives.Butterfly farming not only protects native butterfly populations\, it also allows farmers to raise butterflies for a profit without damaging rainforests. Learning about unique sustainable practices like butterfly farming at Butterfly Odyssey is the first step toward balancing resources for a healthy planet.
